Inspired by a vintage advertising poster for  foie gras pâté and reimagined for The Golden Swan in New York City, this artwork pays homage to one of New York City's most distinctive neighborhood taverns (and on of our favorite hidden gems).
Occupying a beautifully restored two-story townhouse, The Golden Swan pairs refined dining with an exceptional cocktail program in one of Greenwich Village's most storied buildings - a legendary saloon that became a gathering place for artists, writers, laborers, and members of New York's underworld during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Among its most famous proprietors was Thomas Wallace, a blind prizefighter associated with the Hudson Dusters street gang. During its heyday, The Golden Swan welcomed an eclectic mix of Irish gangs, Ashcan School painters, poets, and bohemians, earning a lasting place in New York folklore. Its legacy extended beyond the neighborhood, appearing in the work of painter John Sloan and inspiring Harry Hope's saloon in Eugene O'Neill's The Iceman Cometh. Inspired by this remarkable history, this artwork reimagines The Golden Swan through the bold graphic language of early twentieth-century European poster design, celebrating one of New York City's most enduring restaurant and cultural landmarks.
