Little Owl

On the corner of Bedford and Grove, Little Owl has become almost inseparable from the character of the West Village. Chef Joey Campanaro’s intimate neighborhood restaurant has spent nearly two decades serving bold Mediterranean-inspired food from its famously small dining room. Seasonal menus mix Little Owl staples with dishes inspired by Campanaro’s childhood cooking alongside his grandmother, including the restaurant’s beloved Gravy Meatball Sliders and signature pork chop.

Part of Little Owl’s charm is its setting. The restaurant occupies the ground floor of the distinctive corner building at Bedford and Grove, surrounded by the crooked streets, brick townhouses, and neighborhood life that make this particular pocket of West Village so recognizable - also being the ground floor of the iconic exterior shots of the TV show Friends. Inside, the experience remains intimate and personal, with a dining room designed for only a small number of guests at a time. It is the kind of neighborhood restaurant that works just as naturally for brunch on a Saturday as it does for dinner on a quiet weeknight.

After nearly two decades, Little Owl feels less like a restaurant placed in the West Village and more like a part of the neighborhood itself. Its longevity, familiar corner storefront, warm hospitality, and distinctly New York intimacy have made Bedford and Grove a destination of its own, capturing much of what people love about dining in the Village.

Artwork: This artwork reimagines an early 20th-century Swiss advertising poster by Carl Moos. The simplified forms, limited palette, and bold typography reflect the graphic advertising style commonly used during this period. More than a century later, the owl has been reimagined for Little Owl, with the original photographic imagery replaced by details inspired by the restaurant and its unmistakable West Village home. The deep green, black, and warm cream palette gives the artwork the character of an old European advertising print while remaining particularly suited to kitchens, dining rooms, home bars, studies, and gallery walls. It brings together European poster design and one of New York’s great neighborhood corners, offering a little piece of Bedford and Grove for the home.
