Set on Lafayette Street in NoHo, Jean's is part restaurant, part downtown New York night out. The upstairs dining room takes cues from the familiar American diner and bistro, serving recognizable classics such as burgers, oysters, salads, pasta, and its oversized chocolate chip cookie, alongside cocktails and martinis. But Jean’s is as much about what happens after dinner as the meal itself. Downstairs, the restaurant gives way to its late-night club, with DJs and dancing carrying the evening into the early morning.
Artwork: This original work reimagines Jean’s through the playful elegance of early European nightlife and dance-hall advertising. Two dancers float across a deep black background in vivid red and cream, their elongated silhouettes mirrored against one another as if caught halfway through a dance. The sweeping typography and hand-painted imperfections give the piece some character, while “Jean’s Lafayette," “New York City," and "Caveau de danse" (in this context, meaning "underground dance club") bring the composition firmly into present-day downtown Manhattan. The result captures both sides of Jean’s: dinner upstairs and the energy of a night out downstairs.
With its deep black backing accendted by popping a red and cream palette, the artwork works particularly well in home bars, dining rooms, living rooms, bedrooms, restaurants, and interiors influenced by Art Deco, vintage European advertising, or downtown New York design.
