Grand Banks

Grand Banks is one of New York City’s most distinctive waterfront destinations, a celebrated oyster bar and seafood restaurant set aboard the historic Sherman Zwicker, a wooden schooner docked at Pier 25 in Tribeca. Inspired by the floating oyster barges that once lined Manhattan’s waterfront in the 18th and 19th centuries, Grand Banks brings that maritime history back to life with sustainably harvested oysters, seasonal seafood, nautically inspired cocktails, and sweeping views across the Hudson River.

The setting is what makes Grand Banks nearly impossible to replicate. Guests dine and drink on the deck of a genuine working piece of maritime history, surrounded by wooden masts, rigging, river air, and the Manhattan skyline. The Sherman Zwicker was hand-built in 1942 and is the last original saltbank fishing vessel in existence, once part of the Grand Banks fleet that worked the North Atlantic. Today, the ship remains a living museum and one of New York’s most recognizable places to spend a summer afternoon or evening on the water.

Artwork: This original work reimagines Grand Banks through the language of early 20th-century food and beverage advertising. A lobster stretches dramatically across the table beneath a bottle of wine and a coupe overflowing with fruit, framed by deep black, maritime green, warm gold, and vivid red. The alternating red and cream typography gives “GRAND BANKS” the character of a classic restaurant advertisement while transforming the imagery into something distinctly New York. The dark palette makes it particularly suited for home bars, kitchens, dining rooms, restaurants, and interiors with nautical, Art Deco, or vintage-inspired details.
