Augusta National Golf Club was founded in Augusta, Georgia by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts, who bought the site in 1931 after Jones retired from competition following his 1930 Grand Slam. The land had been home to Fruitland Nurseries, a plant nursery established in 1858, and the course was laid out by architect Alister MacKenzie. In 1934 the club hosted its first tournament, the Augusta National Invitation Tournament, which was renamed the Masters in 1939.
This print draws on the bold look of mid century sporting posters, with a caddie in a vivid red cap and jacket seen from behind, a green flag raised in one hand and a bag of clubs slung over his shoulder against a soft blue sky and rolling green fairway. The heavy lettering across the top names the club, and the line below borrows the tagline most associated with the Masters.
